How Greek Values Differ From Hebrew Values
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. While Greek and Hebrew values shared many of the same common applications, there still existed
considerable differences between the two value systems. Consistent with being a member of the human race, there were inherent similarities shared by both peoples that
reflected a basis of cultural connectedness. Still, as each group was an entity unto itself, there existed both subtle and striking contrasts between the Greek and Hebrew value systems. The writer discusses these differences and similarities as they relate to Greek and Hebrew values. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Ireland's Role in Preserving Classic History
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing
the similarities and differences between Vogt's "Decline of Rome" and Cahill's "How the
Irish Saved Civilization." In many ways, these works describe differing pictures of loyalty -
one to a system in which people lived; the other to a system in which people no longer
needed to live. They also are both about transition. The Roman empire had fallen into an
irreversible, inexorable slide about which it appeared nothing could be done. Neither could
the Europe resulting from Rome's eventual fall do anything about the state in which it found
itself, but Cahill credits Irish monks with ultimately saving Western civilization by recording
Rome's history while also interjecting their own values. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

J.H. Smith's "Constantine the Great"
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper assessing this book.
Constantine represents a turning point for the Roman Empire on all fronts, but he is most
remembered as being the first Roman ruler to convert to Christianity. The book's author
reveals that Constantine's growth in the Christian faith was a slow and arduous process; he
appears to have struggled with the problem of ego throughout his entire adult life. Smith also
reveals much of Constantine's humanity as well as his apparent beliefs that he should be
counted among the Apostles. While making extensive commentary of his own, he includes
several official documents authored by Constantine and distributed to the Empire, allowing the
reader opportunity to arrive at his own decisions as well. Bibliography lists 1 source.
