Out Of Work Divorced Mother: Is It Her Fault?

5 pages in length. Laura is a twenty-four-year-old Caucasian woman who is divorced with three young children. Her ex-husband Josh, who works in a mill in Josephine County, Oregon, has dutifully maintained his child support payments; however, Laura is very upset because it is not enough to support both her and her children. She has a high school education yet has not been able to find full time work, which she significantly attributes to her lack of any pertinent skills. It has come to the point where she must receive food stamps in order to feed her children, which upsets her even more, because she feels it is all her fault that she is in this situation. Clearly, that is not the case, inasmuch as the overwhelming social forces and cultural influences have served to involuntarily shape her life to the exclusion of her own choices. Partial Birth Abortion: Supreme Court Opinion

An 8 page overview of Stenberg v. Carhart, a case coming before the Supreme Court in April, 2000. The case involves the privacy issues of abortion. An overview of provided on numerous Court decisions which are applicable to the case including Hodgson v. Minnesota, Ohio v. Akron Center for Reproductive Health, Planned Parenthood v. Casey, Roe v. Wade and Webster v. Reproductive Health Services. Traces the privacy issues dating back to the turn of the century and conclude that these previous findings should be upheld in Stenberg v. Carhart as well. Relates the "undue-burden" issues surrounding state regulation of abortion and presents the opinion that is only when a fetus has reached that stage in its development where it could live outside the body of its mother that the state can claim an interest in preserving the life of that fetus.
