The Mixed Messages found in Articles from Current Issues of “In Style” Magazine
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 3 page paper discussing articles found in consecutive issues of In Style magazine. When reading a number of consecutively published issues of In Style magazine, readers quickly become accustomed to the many mixed messages, use of language and images which are portrayed in some of the articles. Largely, the magazine is a fashion and beauty magazine; the main aspects which no doubt attract readers interested in fashion and beauty. Throughout the issues however, there are some mixed messages which seem to indicate that attractive components in women also include those beyond beauty and fashion. While some articles state that women with confidence and “fascinating minds” may be good role models for the readers, largely the magazine focuses on beauty tips which are able to conceal “flaws” in women. While this may be disconcerting to anyone who may be reading the magazine in hopes of a realistic portrayal of women, the letters and opinions printed in the magazine received from the readers actually reflect a reading audience which is satisfied with its scope.

The Mommy Track: How Women are Faring
[ send me this paper ]
A 14 page paper discussing the gains women have made in balancing work and family. Working moms are achieving balance between home and work demands, but to what extent largely depends on the characteristics of the employer. Organizations such as the Chubb Group and Fleet Financial still are the exception by far. Most women have no options such as these two companies offer; we
continue to simply do the best we can and involve the children so that they understand why
mom is unavailable so much of the time. Bibliography lists 13 sources.

[ send me this paper ]

Women's athletic and sports programs have not received the same level of funding or the same degree of publicity. This essay discusses these discrepancies, comments on Title IX and cites research that illustrates the benefits of sports programs and athletics for girls and women. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
