Abortion And The Women's Movement
[ send me this paper ]
It is naturally assumed and probably correct that the women's movement began in the latter two decades of the nineteenth century. By the early 1930's, it was believed that gender roles had been culturally constructed in such a manner as to preclude such access by perpetrating a system of subjugation and beliefs that women were inferior to men. This opened the gates to advocating changes in social structure and cultural norms. From a women's history point of view the issue of abortion has run the gamut from total opposition to advocating for safe and economic access. The nineteenth-century women's rights advocates were unanimous in opposing abortion. This 5 page paper presents, in essay form, a brief history of the women's movement and the changes in attitude, within the movement, concerning abortion.

Abortion Debate/Argumentative Essay
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page research paper/argumentative essay that examines the issues surrounding the abortion debate. Abortion is definitively the most "divisive bio-ethical issue of our time" (Levine, 1993, p. 22). In 1973, the Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade ignited a national debate concerning the proper regulation of abortion that has continued to the present (Roy, 2003). Seizing on the language used by the Court, lawyers and commentators have framed this debate almost exclusively in terms of the "woman's right to abortion and the fetus' lack of a corresponding personhood right" (Roy, 2003, p. 339). Examination of this issue shows that both sides have legitimate arguments, but that there are also points on which the majority of the American people can agree. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
