Women, Work And The Family
[ send me this paper ]
4 pages in length. Developing opportunities have become a major social challenge for corporations. Barriers to women's equal participations in the work place are yielding to the forces of economic change, greater need for skilled people in all categories, the demands of women to be treated equally and the presence of equal opportunity laws. However, even with all these positive forces, achieving full workplace parity remains a goal to be reached. Women's greater participation in the nation's labor force has brought with it significant adjustments in family life and social values, thereby requiring changes in corporate practices and policies. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Woolf's "A Room Of One's Own" - Isolation And Androgyny
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. The extent to which isolation is such a critical component to the development and maintenance of an androgynous mind in Woolf's A Room of One's Own is both grand and far-reaching; that society's gender encoding wholly precludes Orlando's ability to attain mental androgyny speaks to the constant – if not invisible – undercurrent of judgment and forced conformation people experience when they go against conventional sex roles. Woolf illustrates how society compels men to be men and women to be women; for androgyny to exist beyond these stringent stipulations, it can only do so in the only place where such social dictate ceases to exist: in isolation. Woolf/A Room of One's Own
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page essay that analyzes Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own. Woolf pictures women and men as being both "locked out" and "locked in" by the boundaries of these roles. In exploring the ramifications of this perspective, Woolf shows how writing is not simply an effect of innate talent, but it also related to social conditions, which prescribe educational and financial opportunities. This substantiates Woolf's overall thesis which is that, to write, what is required is "money and a room of one's own" (Woolf chapter 6). No additional sources cited.

Working Up The Ladder Of Gender Equity: Women In Management
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Nothing is quite as infuriating in today's gender-conscious society than knowing a woman was denied promotion or employment because she was not a man. Indeed, this type of blatant gender discrimination is not as obvious in the contemporary workplace as it has historically been, however, it still exists to such a degree that women – fully qualified and eager to move forward in their careers - continue to pursue higher positions with mixed results. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Workplace Sexual Harassment: Implications
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. One might readily argue how Maria is confusing sexual harassment with gender/racial discrimination, a distinction that may ultimately cost her the suit. Being that sexual harassment is defined as any unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature – verbal, visual or physical - Maria may have great difficultly proving that any of this occurred during which time she was compelled to take on the role of menial servant. Situations can arise when a person is forced against her will to participate in an act of sexual harassment that threatens one's employment, no matter if it was done overtly or merely by inference, however, the circumstances upon which Maria's suit is filed are clearly not of a sexual nature as defined by law and may be construed as pushing the boundaries of current formulations of sexual harassment laws. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
