Women's Magazines And Color
[ send me this paper ]
17 pages in length. Women's magazines often are dominated by white women and rarely illustrate images of women of color, an aspect of printed media that research shows forever contributes to a social divide among women from different ethnic background. The magazines that tend to exclude such women include Vogue and Cosmopolitan; magazines that do cater to the minorities tend to opt for women who are very light in skin complexion, a point that has also caused a divide within the black community. When one ponders the reasons why the exclusion of women from different ethnic backgrounds exists in contemporary popular culture, it is important to analyze such elements as the influence of advertising, the power of patriarchal control and the overwhelming sense of whiteness that continues to perpetuate in modern-day women's magazines. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

Women's Rights Campaign: Taiwan
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Historically speaking, women had a practical, more egalitarian relationship with men for some forty thousand years, which was directly related to the need for a shared responsibility for survival. This began to change, however, when men became associated with the male figure of God, at which point ideals began to shift toward the notion of male superiority. Once the ideal fully developed, the belief of male superiority gained significant strength -- forever to be supported by evolving social and religious doctrines. For Taiwanese women, the areas of education, literature and religion have long histories of restraint through design of typical woman's role; the effects of the designs have been so well entrenched that they have automatically applied to other areas of public life. The overt implications of fear and control represent the role Taiwanese women have historically been forced to play within society. It can readily be argued that while many women have struggled to attain their own self-worth, up until recently they have typically been identified as being akin to material possessions, equated with things that are to be used, like land and other tangible entities. While it is clear that women have intrinsic value of their own, this aspect of the female gender was not readily acknowledged within the stifling boundaries of a patriarchal society until the recent movement toward women's rights. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Women's Role Relevant To Western Religious Traditions Such As Judaism, Christianity And Islam
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. All religions had their beginnings in much the same manner; it is how the individual faith flourished and expanded that ultimately determined how it separated from the rest. Because Judaism, Christianity and Islam all sprouted from much the same system of belief, it is not surprising to find that throughout the centuries and very much into current day practices they have become even more related by religious context, as well as completely detached by the manner in which women's roles are relevant to each respective tradition. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
